Hordes of the Things is a simple generic set of rules for Fantasy Battles, which can be, and has been, applied to almost any conceivable army, fantastic, deranged, or just silly. The Beer & Pretzels games weekend, run annually at Burton-on-Trent in the town hall, traditionally includes a HotT tournament. In 2006 the theme was Kings & Queens. Thematic armies were encouraged, but not compulsory.
The Graceland Wedding Chapel Vegas served as the stronghold for my Flying Elvis army
In round 1 the Elvises were on the defence facing Pete Duckworth's Queen Boudicca and her ancient Britons. The Flying Elvi(TM) display team took the left flank, trailing red, white and blue smoke, while Rev Elvis marshalled the ground troops in front of the stronghold. The DC-3 and one of the skydivers were brought down by the Heroic British charioteers and cavalry before the survivors broke contact and headed for Boudicca's rear area. Before they could do any damage there, a British Hero had swung round and gate-crashed the wedding chapel. This at least gave me time to take a leisurely look at some of the other armies
The Elvises enjoyed more success in Round 3, against the Martians on their home turf, through the use of superior die rolls. Alien Elvis appeared early on with the roll of a 6 and kicked ass, while the Flying Elvi dealt handily with the Martian hero.
Possibly the world's tallest stronghold
