The Kipple Mine

Kipple is the word invented by the late strange Philip K Dick for the inconsequential junk that builds up as we live our lives, a physical manifestation of entropy intruding into the human condition. The trivial is often significant, and I hope that I have found some rich seams of the stuff.

Who writes this rubbish?

My name is Peter Card. I work as a computer programmer cum systems engineer at the Joint European Torus, the (hot) fusion experiment at Culham lab in Oxfordshire. When not working I am often staring out of the window or talking rubbish over a cup of coffee. I own more SF books and board games than are good for me. I have also worked in the defence industry and as a dustman. A long time ago I studied Astronomy at University College London but I escaped with nothing worse than a smattering of Astrophysics and a taste for real ale.

Fun And Games

I never quite got out of the habbit of playing board games . This has led me to some good friends and some strange places. Or is that backwards?

Mr Gernsback's Legacy

I read science fiction. I read a lot of science fiction. I also attend science fiction conventions, where the total immersion in a shared culture soon brings on the delusion that the consumption, discussion and analysis of science fiction is normal behaviour. It is a weirdly intoxicating experience.

A note to the wise. Science Fiction fans, by and large, do not refer to the genre as Sci-Fi and rather resent the term being applied to their cherished branch of literature. Personally, I doubt that this particular cultural battle can ever be won.
